Southern Gear Helps University of Central Florida Baja Racing Team Survive the Toughest Terrain

For 40 years, the University of Central Florida Baja SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team has built an off-road vehicle to compete against hundreds of teams around the world in the Baja SAE races in Kansas. Last year, UCF placed 9th, which was greatly due to the team’s reliable drivetrain. “We have focused much of our efforts into revamping our drivetrain this year hoping to reach a top 5 acceleration score,” says the team. “We are excited to partner with Southern Gear and Machine again because we know that they will get the job done and do it right.”

Each year, the UCF Baja team designs and manufactures a single passenger All-Terrain Vehicle to compete. The competitions simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. The 4-hour long endurance race pushes the cars to their absolute limits. Many teams don’t make it out alive. Only the strong survive. With a 9th place finish last year, the UCF team is aiming for the Top 5 in 2019!
